What are you building?

Hello and assalamualaikum everyone! I am Natasha Iskandar a social media executive at Emax Beauté. I spend my daily life scrolling social media and actually gain from it (sounds cool, huh?)

Let me tell you the adventure of working as social media manager. It can be very fun of course since you are doing what people do in their leisure time as a main job but somehow, the challenge is that - you don’t know what to do in your own leisure time. Since going through social media is actually my job, I find myself always forgetting to really rest. At times, I just wanted to do casual scrolling but I’ll always ended up adding 1-2 postings into my content board. People use social media to escape the reality but for me, social media is my reality.

Despite the challenge that I am facing, I’ll still always find the leverage on social media. I started to use social media heavily when I discovered a social media platform called “Vine”. I met a creator called Luqman Podolski and he had and always been my favourite content creator since then. I aspire to be a content creator like him, where he’s adored for just being himself and not just being the follower of trend, instead, he become the trend. That’s how great he is.

Hi, this is Javen from Good Noise, I make music for films & albums, DJ for weddings & parties, and creating contents including, online course, YT videos and blog post.

My biggest business/marketing challenge

  1. Creating engaging content consistently. I understand the importance of being consistent in putting out content in order to trigger the algorithm to promote us, but it took away too much time of our time in making money to pay the bills.

  2. How to be more effective in getting leads for my DJ services.

Content I will recommend is a book named “Atomic Habit” … if you dont like books…Option 2, just go and watch some Garyvee videos whenever you feel demotivated haha, at least it works for me, they kick my butt and keep me going.

@javenyap Since you’re already reading Atomic Habits – a good way to think about content is Atomic Content.

  • 250 words post, instead of a 2,500 words blog post
  • A simple quote photo, instead of a 6-picture carousel.
  • A 6 seconds reel loop, instead of a 60-seconds reel

Hi all, I’m Fion and I help service-based businesses grow on social media. Short-form video marketing and social media management is my bread and butter. Currently looking to upskill myself, understand the great wide world of marketing outside of social media, and see the bigger picture.

My biggest business/marketing challenge
Current challenge is finding long-term retainer clients, tracking client’s business growth / ROI correlating to social media, and consistently showing up for my brand. I have a hard time ‘selling myself’, to put it simply, and I’m trying to break out of the discomfort.

Hola Everyone! I am Deborah, founder & creative director of Sienna Design Website Link on a mission to advocate the importance of branding and quality design. I also work closely with entrepreneurs where I am the founding Sec Gen for AYEC link and founder of MAYA. My LinkedIn if you want to connect  LinkedIn

My biggest challenge would be getting companies/brands to understand the actual importance of BRANDING for their business. They simply do not understand the importance of what is good branding & marketing, it is something that really sweeps their mind! Another challenge is growing a creative agency is not as easy as other businesses as getting investment is not the same as we do not have an actual product. Then as always - the pricing in this industry is always a challenge… Lastly, finding talented competent team mates.

Hi everyone, I am UT from SweetLife & Co. We are eCommerce florist providing same-day and next-day flower delivery in Penang. Visit our online store.

My biggest business/marketing challenge

Barrier of entry in florist industry is getting low nowadays with the easy access of building online sales channel to acquire customers. We’re competing with new entrants who acquire customers through social media as well as larger chain florist via their online stores.

In short, I am exploring new sales channels to avoid over-reliant on what we’re current do now.

Hello everyone, my name is Kevin Wong. I was in the Sales role for the past 13 years and for the past five years, I’ve been leading the marketing role at a packaging and warehousing solutions company. Currently, I head a team of six, managing marketing activities across Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Challenges
1.Navigating diverse needs and cultural differences in each country poses significant challenges to me to create effective regional marketing plans.

  1. The company sole focus is on lead generation, but marketing is so much more than that. It’s about building brand awareness, engaging with our audience, and driving long-term growth. This aspects that are sometimes harder to measure but equally important and I’m still finding the right way to portray and speak this to the management and board.

Hi everyone.

I’m Elmery, a lawyer specialising in content production and the creative industries. I also play music, write and am into photography.

I’m experimenting with building a different type of legal service for creative businesses. Affordable, easy to understand, easy to use, pragmatic and even fun! Currently, many creative businesses go without legal support but this creates problems down the line for them. Also without a well functioning legal structure, our creative industries will struggle to get to the next level and compete globally.

At Underdog 2024 I’d like to learn how to use the key content marketing channels in our local context, and meet like minded people to do this journey with.

Looking forward to chatting and contributing.

What’s a typical area that a creative business should look at legally, as a start?

Hi Reuben.

Each business is different and at different stages.

I would say start with what is your most important asset (this needs to be properly protected) and what is your greatest risk (this needs to be mitigated).

Typically for creative businesses, being very clear if you legally own your creative assets and what you can and cannot do with it. And what legal risks (eg contractual, or not obtaining proper licences or approvals etc) have you already taken on?

Once the basics are in place, we can then look at how to make better use / monetise your IP and assets.

Happy to chat more at tomorrow’s conference.
